BIG DRAMA DAY AT WORK

I, like most sane people, know that you don't discuss Religion or Politics at work.

Today our office manager, a nice woman in her 50"s who has a son serving in Iraq starting talking about the Republican convention and how we need to make sure that the Republicans stay in office so that her son will be OK.

There is so much wrong with that sentence, but I being a professional said nothing.  However, she kept it up and finally one of the architects told her to please keep her opinions to herself.  She burst into tears and said that this is America and she can say what she wants.  He told her yes that this is America, but that this is also a place of business and that she was being annoying and interfering with work.  She ran into the ladies room and started wailing.  Since I was the only other woman in the office today, I went in to check on her.

She wanted me to back her up, but I told her that I would never bring politics into work and that she should calm down.  And that she should not piss off the architect, who is so much higher than her on the food chain and who could fire her ass.  Needless to say, she didn't calm down.

He sent her home and told her that she wasn't fired, but that she needed to conduct herself in a more professional manner.  She screamed at him to FU*K OFF.

I'm glad that I'm only at this satellite office till my apartment's ready in October, I miss the staff in NYC.

Wow. That would be disturbing.

Her meltdown was nothing compared to mine at work today. I can't take it anymore. Everything I yelled, screamed and sobbed -- let's just say my throat still hurts 6 hours later. I'm sure to get fired -- I think I scared the shit out of him. I scared the shit out of myself. But everyone has a breaking point and I reached mine.

But back to your issue, I hate it when people can't stop talking about that stuff. I enjoy discussing it with like-minded friends but never at work, it's inappropriate, not to mention discriminatory to make everyone in the office who disagrees -- whatever opinion is held -- uncomfortable in that environment. Lots of people also don't understand that a business is not a democracy.

Sorry about your day. You deserve a happier job and a happier life. We spend so much time working that it affects all aspects of our lives. Hugs.

Basically right now I'm working both at the office and home -- about 14 hours a day, 7 days a week, being screamed at half the time.

He may consider me unstable at this point :), but I'd like to meet the person who wouldn't go off their nut under those circumstances.

You have got to put yourself first. It's one thing to put in those hours working for yourself to build up a business (and a future) but it's crazy to work like that for someone else. I don't care what they pay you. It will effect your health. TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF - NO ONE ELSE WILL!!!!!!

They pay me nothing and you're right, thank you. There are a few people trying to beat that into my head and you're one of them. :)

Ugh...
What I've read over the weeks it seems your politics are far more heated than ours...

It's like this whenever there's an election and now since we are at war and the economy is tanking people are more upset and vocal about it. However, there is a time and a place for these discussions.

Yikes. I guess the one excuse as to why she so overreacted is that she's just so worried about her sun, but jeeez.

*hugs*

I've learned there are two things you never talk about to other people which is taboo. Politics and baseball.

She came into work today with her tail between her legs and apologized to everyone. She is under alot of stress, but she does realize she was wrong.
