His dad was this really amazing character actor. Very few leading man roles. It looks like Jack takes after him in that respect too.

He does, you're right. In Hollywood, character actor is generally code for someone who isn't good looking enough to play the leading man or lady! Certainly not the case with Jack. I suppose he just took too many roles playing the same kind of character in slightly different situations, that he got typecast.

I read somewhere that Jack takes on many differnt roles on purpose so that he doesn't get typecast, but I think the money people in movies want their actors to be typecasted cause it's a safer bet.
