BIG DRAMA DAY AT WORK
Sep. 4th, 2008 06:48 pmI, like most sane people, know that you don't discuss Religion or Politics at work.
Today our office manager, a nice woman in her 50"s who has a son serving in Iraq starting talking about the Republican convention and how we need to make sure that the Republicans stay in office so that her son will be OK.
There is so much wrong with that sentence, but I being a professional said nothing. However, she kept it up and finally one of the architects told her to please keep her opinions to herself. She burst into tears and said that this is America and she can say what she wants. He told her yes that this is America, but that this is also a place of business and that she was being annoying and interfering with work. She ran into the ladies room and started wailing. Since I was the only other woman in the office today, I went in to check on her.
She wanted me to back her up, but I told her that I would never bring politics into work and that she should calm down. And that she should not piss off the architect, who is so much higher than her on the food chain and who could fire her ass. Needless to say, she didn't calm down.
He sent her home and told her that she wasn't fired, but that she needed to conduct herself in a more professional manner. She screamed at him to FU*K OFF.
I'm glad that I'm only at this satellite office till my apartment's ready in October, I miss the staff in NYC.
