My very least favorite Pirates movie. I think Jack had less than 5 minutes screen time. Those damn crab/rocks had more screen time than he did. But, as always, he made the most of it and was really the only emotional touchstone in a flurry of special effects.
Thanks to Joyful Molly for these screen caps. She is so awesome, she puts these frames on them.

Date: 2008-09-07 05:45 pm (UTC)If the main character dies at the end, they get the good screen time (like Titanic). But his character was as JD said, "a secondary villain". Particularly in DMC, where he betrays them all for a shot at getting his life back.
He redeemed himself at the end. But his character wasn't meant to have a lot of screen time or to distract the audience from Jack and Will.
For a high concept movie, that's what you get, not much depth but it is a lot of fun. I could rave on about the lack of a character arc for any those characters, other than James. But I won't. :) You're too busy being pregnant and frolicking at the beach.

Date: 2008-09-07 10:49 pm (UTC)I know that James wasn't too important to the story, but they wasted so much time on Jack Sparrow and his crab/rocks and his multiple clones and then so much time on the final battle that they took away some of Norrington's scenes and I just felt cheated.
