LLOYD MEETS OLIVIA. HE TELLS HER THAT HIS SON IS AUSTISIC, THAT HE WAS SEPARATED FROM HIS WIFE AND SHE DIED IN THE FLASHFORWARD. OLIVIA ASKS HIM IF THEY EVER MET AND HE SAYS NO. SEE - HE DIDN'T FLASH FORWARD CAUSE HE WAS WALKING AROUND THE STADIUM IN DETROIT.
OK deep breath....... I think Lloyd's scenes are awkward - Jack's acting is great and that saves them a bit; but the scenes don't flow and seem to be stuck in anyhow, too much editing perhaps.
Take the one where Olivia is leaving with her child and Lloyd (sitting at a table) just looks up and asks her how he can tell his son his mother is dead and she gives an offhand reply and walks on.... I find that unsatisfactory. How did they reach that stage of acquaintance to be able just to say what they did; we have to imagine it?
Also the treacly interactions between the Benfords and their child are a bit overdone.
I don't think we know who Lloyd is yet. I think Lloyd telling his son about his mom's death was brilliant. Jack's portrayal was very understated. Another actor would have been chewing the scenery with that scene.
In the scene when Lloyd met Olivia, first Lloyd was snarky, then ackward then snarky again. It reminded me a little of Steve from Coupling. I'm not feeling the connection with Lloyd and Olivia yet, but I have hope I will.
PS don't ever be afraid to tell me your opinion. I love to discuss and dismantle the show.
The real surprise for me with the show is that I have developed a huge girl crush on Janis. I never saw this actress before, but I am enjoying her tremendously.
I like the fact that the children seem to know more than the adults. This show is a combo soap opera, sci-fi and maybe a little horror thrown in.
Overall, I love the show and am so grateful for new Jack.
He's a scientist isn't he? You are right though; there's been too little to work out how he is going to play the role. His acting is very good, I just wish he had more considerate screen time. I dislike seeing an actor striving to do his best with whatever the writer, director and editor allow him. I want to see my favourites in the lead with lots of sensitive attention!
I suppose there is a lot of detail to show in the first few episodes, although not all the flashes forward have been revealed.
Janis is very good indeed, she certainly holds her scenes. I think it's a good story; I've just got to get used to the American way. I did not watch Lost nor The Wire.
I've been a fan of British TV since I lived there but I don't see it as that different than American TV. I guess British TV is more naughty compared to our TV. And our TV has more violence especially with all the CSI's and NCIS and Law and Order.
There have been several articles about how American actors are being shortchanged with all the Brit actors taking such prime roles. It seems that the British actors will work for less money and most of them have been professionally trained. Interesting. A few years ago all the British actors were either the bad guys or the comic relief, now they have the leading roles. I am just so pleased that Jack is playing a Brit and is using his own voice in this role. I just wish that he had more screen time and that we can get to know his character.
I don't know if he is a scientist, he was in the book but who knows. They need to feature him and give us his back story.
